Are You Experiencing Breakage?
Combat Breakage
Here are my suggestions for nursing your thin or fine strands back to health.
Deep Condition at least two times per week using a light protein conditioner (depending on the amount of breakage you may need a more hardcore protein) and follow up with a moisturizing conditioner. Note: only use a light protein once per week and a hardcore protein once every six weeks
Wash with a clarifying/chelating shampoo. Make sure that the shampoo says clarifying or chelating shampoo (you don’t need to use a clarifying or chelating shampoo every week). These shampoos have certain ingredients that are made for removing build up. My favorite is Elucence Clarifying Shampoo. Note: Follow up with a moisturizing shampoo after using a clarifying or chelating Shampoo.
If you are experiencing breakage shortly after you’ve gotten a touch up, use a neutralizing shampoo for the first wash after a touch-up. Follow up with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. My suggestion is Aveda Dry Remedy shampoo and conditioner.
Do not use any direct heat until your breakage has subsided. That means no flat irons, curling irons, or blow dryers. Instead try to use a hooded hair dryer and incorporate protective styles such as roller-sets.
At this point it is very important that you baby your hair! It may take time, but your hair will thank you for it!
