A single French braid is a sophisticated look that protects the ends of your hair. It’s a great protective style (if the ends are tucked) for women with any hair length. However, typically you will mainly see women with medium to longer length hair wearing this style.

Instructions for protective styling – French Braid

Comb hair to the back

1.) Take a section from the top of your head, make this section 3 strands, cross right over the middle strand, then left over the middle strand (the same as you would a regular braid)

2.) Put all of the strands into your hand (left hand)

3.) Take a small section of hair from the right side of your head (with right hand) and add to your right strand

4.) Bring the right strand to the middle strand and the middle to the right

5.) Switch hands still keeping all strands separate making your left hand will be free

6.) Take a section of hair from the left side of the head, incorporate this into the left strand

7.) Bring the left strand over to the middle and bring the middle section to the left.

8.) Repeat steps until there is no hair left

9.) Braid to the end and tuck for protection

It’s important when doing these steps to keep your hands close to the head. This is to ensure that the braid is tight.
