Over Manipulation Can Cause Thinning Hair
We are nearing the end of the What Causes Thinning Hair Series. So far up to this point we’ve talked about thinning hair as a result of poor diet, stress, medications, illnesses, and disorders. However, there are causes of thinning hair that are brought on by unhealthy hair care practices. Today we will discuss over/unnecessary manipulation.
Over Manipulation
Oftentimes unnecessary manipulation can hinder growth and retention as well as cause stress on the hair. When you manipulate the hair way too much the result can be thinning hair, hair loss, or breakage. Over manipulation may in the form of excessive brushing or combing of the hair, constantly putting your hands in your hair, excessive rubbing of the hair when washing it, excessive blow-drying and flat ironing, etc.
How to incorporate “low” manipulation into your regimen?
Low manipulation is sort of subjective, what works for one may not work for the other. In low manipulation your focus should be not to do too much to your hair. Take a look at your current regimen and see what practices are too frequently. That should give you an idea of what to deal with first. A way to ensure that you stay on the path of low manipulation is to incorporate protective hairstyles into your regimen.
Leave your hair alone!!! If you do, your hair will thank you for it by way of a reduction in breakage and retaining length!

does this mean you should not comb your hair everyday
I prefer not to comb every day. If you’re going to comb everyday use a seamless comb, bone comb, or use your fingers.
